Meditating for Beginners: Restoring Balance In Your Life Through Meditation

Do you seek balance, inner-peace and harmony in your life?

Harmonious living is something we all strive towards. But in today’s fast paced world it can be difficult to find the right balance, and be free of those negative emotions and thoughts.

To restore balance and not become consumed by modern-day life it’s important to take that much-needed time out to quietly reflect, time to focus on the little things that matter such as family and friends.

Another common problem I see is what I call “materialism.” People become far to consumed by need and want, not really taking into account just how lucky they are for what they have, this in itself is a negative factor and a vicious cycle.

So how do we restore balance for the mind, body and soul?

There are many tools and techniques that can help you restore balance and harmony in your life but the most effective, in my opinion, is meditating. Meditating helps to remove yourself (mentally) from these external influences so you can control your thoughts and manage them more effectively.

How to Get Started with Meditation

Many people assume that meditating is difficult and that you need the guidance or intuition of a qualified instructor. Sure a few insights and lessons can benefit you greatly but you can get started with meditation easily by following a few simple steps.

The following are a few key areas for meditating you should consider:

#1 The Right Environment

It doesn’t matter if you meditate indoors or outdoors. The only thing you need to consider is whether your meditation spot is tranquil and peaceful and free from distractions. Anywhere that you can happily meditate undisturbed can be considered a good environment.

#2 Breathing Exercises

Breathing exercises are an integral part of the meditation experience. As you begin to meditate, bring your awareness to your breathe and feel how the air flows freely in and out of your body. If you want to anchor yourself in the moment then try counting your breathe. As you inhale, count 1. As you exhale, count 2.. rinse and repeat.

#3 Proper Posture

It’s important to remain comfortable during meditation. Whether you meditate on the floor with your legs crossed or in a chair doesn’t really matter. But your back needs to be straight with your shoulders broadly apart. Sounds easy enough, but it’s difficult to avoid slouching during meditation.

#4 Singular Focus

To improve concentration use mental imagery whereby you hold the picture of an image in your mind. A candle flame works particularly well for developing singular focus. Try it, light a candle, dim the lights, and focus your gaze on the flame. Now see how long you can spend resting in the spaces between thoughts.

#5 Creative Visualization

Once you’ve reached a deeper dimension of awareness through meditation, you can use creative/ positive visualization to enhance your meditation experience. Visualize you having achieved the things you want to achieve in the present moment or just visualize things you associate with positive feelings.

#6 Be Consistent

As with anything, meditation takes some time to master. But don’t write it off before you give it a fair shot. Seriously, try meditating for just 5-10 minutes once or twice a day for the next thirty days. After the thirty days is up you can make your own mind up as to whether it had a positive impact in your life.

Final Words

There is much more to meditating than meets the eye. It really is a unique journey which is best learned through experience. If you keep up the practice, you’ll soon witness the benefits this ancient spiritual practice has for the harmonizing the mind, body and soul. Why delay, start today and enrich your life with harmony and balance.

Are you struggling to live a life of purpose and passion that’s filled with joy and happiness?

You know you want a live a positively abundant life, but there’s one problem… It’s hard!

That is, until NOW.
